Cycle for your Wallet
Cycling saves you and the taxpayer loads of money.
- According to Cycling England a 20 per cent increase in cycling in 2012 would release a cumulative saving of £500m by 2015. A rise of 50 per cent on current rates would unlock more than £1.3bn, derived from savings in congestion, pollution and healthcare.
- According to the RAC, motorists now spend an average of £5,539 a year operating their vehicles, the equivalent of £15 a day and 46p a mile. This figure is rapidly climbing. According to the RAC "For such an important decision, too few of us understand the spread of costs associated with owning and running a car."
- Bicycles require no vehicle tax, no MOT, no insurance, no licensing, no breakdown recovery services, and above all no fuel bills.
- A good bicycle will cost around £50-£75 to maintain, and a lot less if you do a bit yourself.
- A good bike will last for many years, and even decades.
- You don't have to pay to park your bike, and they can be parked just about anywhere.
